Root and Branch Treatment
A key principle of Japanese-style acupuncture is the identification and treatment of the underlying pattern of imbalance that may be contributing to a patient's presentation. This is referred to as root treatment. Rather than focusing solely on the primary complaint, root treatment is based on a comprehensive assessment of the individual's overall health, constitution, and diagnostic findings. The aim is to restore physiological balance and support the body's natural regulatory and healing processes, providing a foundation for more sustained clinical outcomes.
The second component of treatment is known as branch treatment, which focuses on the management of the patient's presenting symptoms. This may include the treatment of pain, musculoskeletal dysfunction, digestive concerns, headaches, stress-related symptoms, or other specific conditions. Branch treatment is tailored to the individual's current presentation and works alongside root treatment to address both the underlying imbalance and the immediate clinical concerns.
Together, root and branch treatment form a comprehensive treatment approach that seeks to improve overall function while providing targeted symptom relief.
How it is used here
Acupuncture may be included as part of a broader session plan, depending on your goals and suitability. People often choose it when they want a gentle technique that supports both local tissues and overall regulation.
What treatment feels like
Needles are fine and typically sit close to the skin’s surface in this style. Many people feel little to no pain, but may notice subtle sensations.
